MICR toner and check stock
Magnetic ink character recognition is what MICR stands for. MICR toner ink makes it possible to process checks during automated processes. This ink is not widely available but needs to be procured on special request as its composition and characteristics are strictly guarded by the ANSI body. The only characteristic of this ink worth mentioning is that it contains small quantities of iron oxide which are responsible for giving this ink its magnetic properties. A regulated MICR toner will radiate light at a particular angle to allow for seamless viewing and reading of the check.
Check stock need to be printed using properly regulated toners as without the proper toner it is virtually impossible to read and sort checks by an automated system. These check stock papers are printed keeping in mind stringent printing protocols. For example the width of these characters doesn’t exceed more than 1/8th of an inch while the fonts are set to E-13B which is recognized the world over. Another aspect about using MICR toner ink is that it provides some level of security to these checks and can thus help prevent frauds and forgeries. Precision and security are the highlights of this toner ink and this is the reason why many airlines and production houses use this MICR toner ink to print tickets and passes.
